A Celebration of Muay Thai, Culture & Community in Costa da Caparica

Bold moves. Strong roots. On July 12, 2025, Costa da Caparica hosted the first Torneio do Pescador—a full-day event bringing Muay Thai, local food, and community spirit to the stage of the Urban Park amphitheater.

What It’s About

Torneio do Pescador is more than a martial arts tournament. It’s a community event that connects the ancient Thai tradition of Muay Thai—known as the “Art of Eight Limbs”—with the fishing heritage and vibrant culture of Costa da Caparica.

The event was launched to give local fighters a platform and to introduce people of all ages to the power, discipline, and respect at the heart of Muay Thai. But it also celebrates the everyday spirit of Caparica’s people—tough, proud, and full of energy.

What Happened This Year

The first edition of the tournament took place on July 12, 2025, at the Urban Park in Costa da Caparica. Organized by Associação Sakura and Caparica Muay Thai, the program mixed sport and culture in a full-day lineup for all ages.

Alongside the Muay Thai fights, there were free fitness classes in functional training and Power Yoga, a comedy set, local food stalls, massages, and even a market with traditional sweets and handmade products. The menu was inspired by Arte Xávega—Caparica’s fishing traditions—and Asian street food culture.

The entire day was designed to feel open, welcoming, and full of life.

History of Torneio do Pescador

History of Torneio do Pescador Muay Thai, known as the “Art of Eight Limbs,” is a traditional martial art from Thailand with centuries of history. It combines strikes using fists, elbows, knees, and shins, rooted in the country’s warrior culture and celebrated worldwide today. Here in Costa da Caparica, a vibrant coastal town known for its fishing heritage and strong community spirit, we created the Torneio do Pescador to bring this ancient sport closer to local fighters and fans. Since our first tournament on July 12, 2025, held near the waterfront where fishermen have worked for generations, the event has grown into a unique celebration of skill, respect, and local pride. The Torneio do Pescador honors both the deep traditions of Muay Thai and the hardworking spirit of Costa da Caparica’s people, making it more than a fight—it’s a community gathering rooted in history and culture.
